Listen Well Scotland’s Chair, Linda Harding, shares our understanding of the important work teachers and support staff do in supporting young people in the aftermath of Covid. Peer-level listeners can make a real difference to each other and listening training and a listening culture in school boosts well being and improves mental health.

*Listening Time 4U 1:1 listening service delivered by LWS Registered Listeners as early intervention and prevention

                     P6  TALK and LISTEN!

 This course introduces young people, before their transition   year, to the importance of talking about and listening to   feelings for their health and wellbeing.

 An additional module in P7 – Listening for Change – introduces   the young people to how they can use listening to manage   times of change.

S2 STEP UP 2 LISTEN

This is an introductory experiential 1-day course that introduces young people to the foundational skills of active listening. It will develop them as listening people with an understanding of the importance of listening for health and wellbeing. This course will improve peer communication, build self-confidence and resilience.

YP Lets Get Listening

YP LET’S GET LISTENING! ONLINE LISTENING COURSE

This is an Online Listening Course for young people giving them the transferable life skills of active listening. This can improve peer communication, self-confidence and self-worth, build mental resilience and wellbeing, and reduce stigma, bullying and discrimination.

         S4 LISTEN WELL AWARD 

 S4 YP Listen Well. This is a 2 day           in-person course that introduces young   people to the skills of active listening   and developing as a listening person,   with an understanding of the impact of   listening on health and wellbeing.       The course will introduce young people   to listening in the context of loss,   change and difference. There will be the   opportunity to experience talking and   listening in pairs, using the skills   learned within a safe listening   framework.

S4 LIsten Well Award is achieved by completing the Listen Well Course followed by the Listening Challenge

        LISTENING CHALLENGE.           Encouraging peer communication by   working in groups.

 Pupils can create promotional material   to raise awareness of the importance of   listening for health and wellbeing   among young people.  e.g. posters, a   short video (4 mins max), marketing   items.  Or

 Pupils can plan, develop and initiate a     project within their school to build a   listening community to improve mental   health and wellbeing.

S5/6 LISTENING FOR THE FUTURE

Please note that to take part in Listening for the Future pupils must have first completed the Listen Well course.

Listening for the Future will help prepare young people for the transition to the world of work, further education and life events.

This is a 2 day course that builds upon the skills learned on the Listen Well course. The course will equip pupils with more advanced listening skills along with personal learning activities and reflection. Further opportunities are provided to experience listening in pairs.

BECOME AN LWS SCHOOL TRAINER

Listen Well Scotland is now offering the opportunity for staff to become LWS School Trainers able to deliver our School Training Programme within the school timetable in their own school.
LWS courses are delivered by 2 co-trainers.

The Training Programme to become a Listen Well Scotland (LWS) School Trainer involves our 2-day Listen Well Course for adults followed by Advanced Listening Course. Further training will then be provided on the course content and delivery for young people.
